Our Story

Meet the Artist

Hello, my name is Susan and I’m the creator and cake artist of Avec la Fleur. I am a self taught at-home baker with a love for the ART that cake & buttercream allow.

My food journey actually began in middle school, learning the food industry from the ground up. I saw how food brought people together, celebrating life gathered around a table. Clearly, food was much more than what was on the plate. It nourished the soul and excited the senses; especially when it was time for dessert.

My cake journey began in 2017, when I couldn't find a cake to satisfy my vision of a fun, inspired and imaginative for my youngest child’s birthday party. The idea struck! Create what I envisioned on my own. And so the adventure began. That cake was a hit, family and friends wanted more, As the circle of requests widened, so did my experimentation with flavors, shapes and passion for this new found medium.

For me, there is nothing better than to sculpt a cake that unexpectedly draws you in so intensely —- whether by its texture, structure, movement or glitz —- then, to grab a fork and allow the flavors to create an excitingly unique, artistic experience.

In 2020, this passion became a business and Avec la Fleur was born. Avec la Fleur roughly translates too, “With the Flower”. I have always been passionate about flowers; either as gifts, growing my own or creating beautiful at-home arrangements. That love of flowers adorns many of my cakes, so the name seemed apropos.. I love creating tantalizing art that you can eat.

As I always say, “ You Can Have Your Cake and Eat It Too”.
